About Danny

Hi my name is Danny, I have been teaching cooking classes for the last 20 years both for fund raising (USN, St. Jude's), at Salud Cooking School (Whole Foods) and some indepent projects.

At Nonna's Gourmet Foods we love the community. We bottle and jar pasta sauces, provide personal chef services and cater small events. We do this to help raise money for children's brain cancer.

Showing people how easy and enjoyable cooking and baking can be.

I have been cooking for 35+ years both domestic and abroad. Have owned/operated restaurants from 1997-present.

I got started teaching by donating my time to different schools that were raising money for scholarships. I also started teaching at Whole Foods (Green Hills) when they had a cooking school there for over 10 years. All of my classes were full and there was a waiting list.

I have been in the restaurant business for 40 years. I am the chef founder of Caffe Nonna in Nashville Italian restaurant that I started in 1999 that still exists under the Caffe Nonna brand. I have a sauce company that I join on my pasta sauces. I have a cooking baking and restaurant management degree from the New York restaurant school. I've worked overseas as well as domestic hotels and restaurants, catering companies, etc.

About the lesson

Talk with them to see what type of recipes they are looking for. Work with them on life skills what level they feel comfortable with working on. One knowledge they have so far and where would they like to be.

I have worked with all types of students. Meaning they are different levels. Someone has been cooking some have not, but all enjoyed me teaching them.

You have to feel comfortable with the person. I am easy-going and understand that students to get nervous especially when using a knife or cooking overheat.

My time at Whole Foods was my most enjoyable time of teaching students were eager to learn, as well as the events that I held for university school of Nashville

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
They should think through what they really want to cook. How involved do they want to get in a recipe. Also understand how much the groceries will cost on top of the class. And do they want to cook for a week at a time is something to think about.

Details

My fee is usually $75 per hour plus groceries. To cut down on the hourly rate I sometimes put the grocery list together and the student shops for what is needed for the class and if a student signs up for more than one class I give a discount.
