About Karl
I tailor high-quality, conservatory-level training to each individual student’s needs and goals. I specialize in teaching the dedicated adult amateur classical guitar student, although I teach students of any age level or ability. I offer an integrated curriculum which includes a technique regimen, a comprehensive approach to solo repertory, opportunities to play in ensembles, and bi-annual recitals. In addition, we have built a fun and supportive community through monthly Group Lessons. I have very few openings in my schedule, and have been in high demand for many years. Some of my students have been with me for 10+ years, which is testimony to the effectiveness of my approach. I have performed all over the US and in Asia, I have performance degrees from the Cleveland Institute of Music and the University of South Carolina. I have served on the music faculties of The Ohio State University, Capital University Conservatory of Music, Ohio Wesleyan University, Otterbein University, and the Summer Workshop at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music.
I began teaching in grad school to make money for school. I’ve been teaching full-time ever since.
I have 25 years experience as a private music instructor and college music professor. I have a Master if Music degree from the Cleveland Institute of Music and a Bachelor of Music from the University of South Carolina.

I use the first lesson to assess each student’s strengths and weaknesses, and to introduce basic technical concepts and my approach to building tone. Materials are recommended as necessary. Over the first 4-6 lessons, we develop a plan that works for the student’s abilities and aptitude.
