About Kai

Hi! I'm Kai Elwood-Dieu, a college student at NYU Shanghai. I teach English when I'm in China, and I teach Chinese when I'm in the US! I was born in Washington DC and I have lived in China for 3 years. I passed the Chinese government's HSK 6 (汉语水平六级考试)- the highest Chinese test offered by the Chinese government. I want to help you learn Chinese!

I started tutoring younger kids in English in Shanghai China, and then realized I could also teach Chinese to Americans. Really, for be it came down to a passion about sharing languages with others.

9 years of Chinese language training and 3 years experience living in China. Additionally, various testing scores on language exams.

About the lesson

Set up a meeting to discuss particular areas of improvement and discuss possible ways to help, either online or in person. From there, set up a time! This process varies from person to person, but I understand that everyone feels comfortable around different people and practicing different languages at different speeds, so there is no one way.

I've worked with students from 4 to 15 years old in classroom and individual settings, both as a teacher and a tutor.

Look for someone who has been through the same experience you are going through. Native speakers have a completely different way of understanding their own language than a non native speaker does, and this is reflected in teaching styles. Get a tutor you can be friends with!

One of my favorite memories is interacting with one of the youngest kids I ever taught, who was extremely excited about all our classroom dances and activities even though she couldn't yet understand anything about what was happening.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
