About Joseph

I was a master player in 1991 and people started to ask me to teach at schools, community centers, privately, etc.

I have been teaching for 31 years.

About the lesson

I do an evaluation to find the proper place to begin instruction. If they have games played in tournaments, I review these to pinpoint the exact areas of improvement. I also assign weekly homework as this is critical for improvement.

Starting students to highly skilled (advanced students). I have had 18 National Champions and 5 National Championship teams. Finally, I have had about 25 students who have been in the Top 100 Lists for their age(s).

Don't look for a person who is excellent at playing chess. Playing chess and teaching chess are completely different skills. You need to find an excellent teacher who is very good at chess. Look for someone who is able to and is willing to get to the level of the student and be able to meet each student at their levels of experience/skill. A great teacher is one who can communicate and teach each student at the level the student is at (not at the level the teacher is at). Many are not able, interested, or willing to do this.

I am a Senior Tournament Director and am organizer of a National tournaments. It has been very enjoyable to be able to organize and have the tournaments run smooth with hundreds of players coming from all over.
