About Carey

Presently, I hold a New Jersey Substitute Teacher Certificate and scored far above the top number (9 points) for 'average performance range' on Praxis Earth & Space Sciences. I am preparing for Praxis General Science (a teacher certification exam). I am a graduate of The Johns Hopkins University with a Bachelor of Arts in Earth and Planetary Sciences from Krieger School of Arts and Sciences.

Besides cultivating a minimalist lifestyle and an ascetic personal carbon footprint, I have a passion for educating students in Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science, and Mathematics at the college preparatory level. My work as a Teacher Assistant for Plainfield High School of Plainfield Public School District in New Jersey from 2011 to 2020 has allowed me to establish a diverse and wide breadth library of instructional tools and resources.

For years prior to 2019, I served on occassion as an in-class support teacher on a long-term temporary basis for students in Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, Algebra I/II, and Geometry. I worked locally at a library as a private tutor to a high school student through the aforementioned courseload successfully over 2.5 years.

My hobbies are speed walking, weight lifting, nutrition.

I began as a substitute teacher in a middle school science classroom on a long-term assignment for three months before the end of the school year.

My education and athletic endeavors at The Johns Hopkins University provided the foundation for eco-conscious decision making and tools for knowledge sharing that help me to build curious, confident, and ecologically-friendly learners in the community. I am, also, grateful to be part of a high school team of superlative teachers of science and mathematics.

About the lesson

The first step in a tutoring appointment is an email exchange, or a phone conversation, depending on a client's preference, to map out the scope of the challenge posed by homework problem sets, class projects, upcoming exams, or course curriculum. This affords me an opportunity to collect study aids and textbooks from my library relative to the subject.

In the past I have tutored in a public library and large coffee shops. I am available online for tutoring sessions and in person locally.

I was fond of watching my mother study for her 2020 Nursing Continuing Education required courses, and helping her on the computer to renew her Registered Professional Nurse license with the New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs.
