I was Ms Parrott’s student in AP Biology as a senior in high school during the 2016 school year. After learning under her, the best way I can describe her teaching is “adaptable”. Ms Parrott excels at delivering content in an organized way that is digestible regardless of your learning style. She truly gets to know her students and how they learn, and alters her curriculum to fit.

I was always a very framework-oriented thinker and struggled with topics that I just had to memorize. Ms Parrott recognized this and would take the time to walk me through the chemistry of cellular interactions so I could build on my understanding, instead of just throwing a textbook at me to memorize.

To fast-forward, I got a 5 in that class end went on to graduate from MIT in 2020. Through my college career, Ms Parrott’s teaching helped me not only learn biology, but understand how learning works in the first place. This understanding has helped me not only through my intro bio course, but through other subjects as well.

She understands that students have different learning styles and require different approaches, so she utilizes many different techniques to explain both simple and difficult science topics. In our classes, we often did fun interactive labs, group activities, and games that involved the whole class. But what really sets Ms. Parrott apart from other instructors is her energy and personality- she always brought such enthusiasm, excitement, and humor to all our classes. I never liked Biology as it was typically taught by reading and dull lectures. Well with Ms. Parrott, that was NOT the case. Ms. Parrott only used lectures when there was no fun way to get around the topic. Her lessons were consistently out of the box and engaging. She always succeeded at making me laugh each class. If you’re looking for instruction that’s different and extremely effective, invest in Ms. Parrott as she will invest in you and/or your child!
