About Brandon

Bowling has been an enormous part of my life for the past 35 years. As both a Silver level trained coach, and high level competitor myself I am committed to passing on the knowledge I have to others in ways that help them truly enjoy the game! I am always increasing my knowledge to truly understand today's game...staying relevant to students at all talent levels. I also am the Head Coach for Waterloo West boys and girls bowling. I am able to help with your physical game, mental approach, building a team...whatever that may be. In recent years I have been awarded the Iowa USBC Coach of the Year, and Iowa 3A High School Coach of the Year. Many of my students currently bowl at the college level, and I have some just graduating out of bumper league! :-) Truly love helping people of all ages and talent levels.

I've always been a teacher at heart, and have managed people in anything I've done in my career. The coaching just came very natural, and the more I did it the more I wanted to continue learning more. It matched well with my love for the sport of bowling.

USBC Level I, Bronze, and Silver trained coach. USBA Certified instructor. Countless camps, forums, research on our great sport. Had lessons with some of the top coaches in the world.

About the lesson

Typically I like to commit to at least 2-3 lessons. I will always start with finding out what the student is wanting to gain from a lesson, get to know them and their surroundings a bit before we even begin. The first lesson I like to use a lot of video and watch, pointing out some things as we go. I use the video and what I learn to develop a plan for the next one or two lessons, and pass the knowledge along to the student so they can work on things themselves as well. I will always try to give the student drills and techniques they can work on both at home and on the lanes.

All age and talent levels from bumper leagues to senior citizens. My expertise really lies in the middle school to college age. I also understand the difference in typical timing differences between male and female athletes, and for that reason I work with many female adults as well. But honestly, I work with all types of bowlers.

Be prepared to work. Be prepared with what it is that you really want to accomplish during a lesson. Don't be afraid to ask questions. Come into your lesson with an open mind for solutions. The lesson is just ther beginning. It's what you do with that knowledge afte the lesson that really makes the difference!

I love coaching teams. We recently won the Boys 3A Iowa State Championship. I love celebrating as a team!

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Is this person someone that can help a person at my set skill level? Am I willing to make the financial and time commitment necessary to make the lesson worthwhile? What do I really want? Where do I want to go next after I make this commitment? Is this the level of coach I need right now?
