About Kirsten

Hi I'm Kirsten and I am a recent graduate of Connecticut College! I double majored in biology and environmental studies because I love science. I have a very strong background in many different fields within the sciences. Growing up, I always knew I wanted a career in science because throughout my schooling, my favorite class was always some type of science class. I was lucky enough to have really great teachers who fueled my passion and wonder for all things related to biology and the environment, as this passion only grew in time. That being said, I believe that having a good a truly passionate teacher is key to grasping the material learned in class, because the best classes were always the ones where the teachers put in the extra effort to inspire their students and fully clarify the material. I try my best to apply this mentality in my own tutoring, and make learning as fun as I can by extending my passion and taking a creative approach in my lessons. I generally like to follow a lesson plan in which I review the material with my students in a systematic matter, because I believe it is crucial to have a good foundation to build upon. In addition to this, I bring a creative approach to learning the material for each lesson, which I find makes grasping the material much easier.

I have prior experience tutoring my fellow college students at school, where I worked as a peer tutor in the introductory biology and environmental studies classes for students who felt they needed additional help with learning class material. During these sessions, I would normally either work one on one with the student, or in a small group of about 3-4 students. I would review class and lab material with them, help them with test prep, as well as assist them in writing their laboratory reports.

I want to benefit the students I work with as much as possible. I am extremely accessible and easy to reach out to and am very flexible in terms of scheduling or cancelling tutoring sessions and will always provide timely responses. I also have a great deal of my own textbooks and other resources that I can bring to the lesson if needed. Feel free to contact me with any additional questions or to schedule a lesson!
