About Mollie

I am a big advocate for learning of all types, despite having learning disabilities I have found ways to succeed and excel in education. In college I was the president of the Horticulture Honors Society and ran tutoring through the club. I helped start the PEER Mentoring program at Colorado State University and have cultivated numerous techniques and skills to learn any subject. I have a Bachelor's of Science in Horticulture graduated Magna Cum Laude from Colorado State and started tutoring in 2019. I understand that some subjects are harder to learn, but everyone can do it, even if it takes a little extra work. I look forward to doing what I can for those looking to succeed in their education.

Throughout highschool I had difficulty learning and found out that my learning style was different than the standard. I found it was my passion from then on to help those of all learning styles (standard or not) to succeed. Not only is success in the class room going to help your grades but it furthers your education and helps round you as a person. I am happy to be a part of that and do the best I can to help those around me.

I have a Bachelor's Degree of Science in Horiticulture with a concentration in Floriculture from Colorado State University. In college I used to be a tutor, president of the Horticulture Honors Society, PEER mentor, essay editor and tutor. I have worked in greenhouses, as a florist and currently work at a biotech company working genomics and flow cytometry. I have 3 years of an unfinished art degree in painting and had a focus in college on plant biology.

About the lesson

It is important to set out clear goals with the student of what they are trying to accomplish, then to move on to the content they are looking at. Is it the overall concept they are having trouble with or the application? When I go through the material with a student I can get a grasp on what they do and don't understand. Then I like to focus on what they are having problems with, mixing in other material they may understand to reinforce what they know. If they are having difficulty with homework/diagrams/application I like to supply practice problems where I can go through it with them then have them try it on their own. If they don't get it I will find another strategy. If I am meeting with them multiple times about one subject in a course before an exam I will touch upon older material to make sure they are in touch with the overall concept as well. Though, learning is different for everyone so my process changes for each individual student.

I have worked with a wide array of students. I have worked with those that need help with homework and projects even though they understand the basic concepts. I have worked with students that do not understand the material at all and are struggling with where to begin. I have worked with those lost on how to study, not because they do not understand the concepts but instead that they cannot remember it. I have worked through testing issues, study habits, model making, and essay writing. No student is the same as another and all have different needs.
