About Adam
I’m an experienced Maths teacher and tutor with over 12 years of tutoring experience, specialising in GCSE and A-level Maths and Physics.
I have a Master's degree in Mathematics and a PGCE in Secondary Mathematics Education, and I have worked as a secondary school Maths teacher, primarily specialising in A-level Mathematics. I have also undertaken specialist professional development through the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications (IMA) Teaching Scholarship programme and have delivered A-level Maths CPD to other teachers.
Over the years, I have taught students of all ages and abilities, from primary school pupils to undergraduates and adult learners. While I tutor Maths, Physics and Chemistry, the majority of my students are studying GCSE and A-level Maths or Physics.
I have a strong track record of helping students make significant progress. I've helped many students improve their results by several grades, including one GCSE Maths student who improved from a Grade 1 to a Grade 7. I have also helped students achieve the grades and further skills needed to progress to the most competitive university courses, including at Cambridge.
For me, successful tutoring is about more than simply getting the correct answer. I want students to understand what they are doing, become more confident in the subject and develop the skills to tackle unfamiliar problems independently.
I enjoy working with students who have lost confidence in Maths, as well as those aiming for the highest grades and preparing for demanding exams or further study.
Outside of teaching and tutoring, I work with young people as an outdoor activity instructor and have volunteered as an Explorer Scout leader. This has given me considerable experience motivating and supporting young people with different personalities, abilities and learning styles.

My lessons are tailored to the individual student rather than following a one-size-fits-all approach.
I normally start by identifying the student's current strengths, weaknesses and any gaps in their understanding. We then work on the underlying concepts before applying them to increasingly challenging questions. I place a strong emphasis on understanding how and why a method works, rather than simply memorising procedures.
For GCSE and A-level students, lessons often include:
- Reviewing previous learning
- Building confidence and resilience with difficult topics
- Developing problem-solving skills and mathematical fluency
- Working through past-paper questions and breaking down the mark scheme
- Improving speed, accuracy and exam technique
- Preparing systematically for upcoming exams
- Filling gaps in knowledge and addressing misconceptions
I adapt the pace and level of challenge to each student. If a student is struggling, we can slow things down and build their understanding and confidence step by step. For students who are already performing strongly, I provide more challenging problems and focus on the skills needed to reach the top grades and further qualifications such as UKMT and STEP papers.
I also support students preparing for further study, including the transition from GCSE to A-level and from A-level to university-level Maths and other mathematically demanding subjects. For these students in particular, I ensure we move beyond the curriculum and develop more independence.
My aim is for all students to leave each lesson with a clearer understanding of the subject, greater confidence and a better idea of how to approach problems independently.

A great maths teacher/tutor with excellent subject knowledge and lots of patience.
I've worked alongside Adam many times as an outdoors instructor and have found he is an incredibly competent and engaging teacher. He is able to create an atmosphere where individuals feel supported and challenged to learn new skills. Would highly recommend.
I have known Adam a long time and he has helped my kids with various subjects including maths and physics. He has also looked after them on climbing walls as well as outdoor climbing.
He knows his stuff academically, and is a fun but responsibly adult when it comes to organising and running sports.
I feel confident leaving my kids in his care.Adam was recommended to help my son in his final year of A Level Physics . Adam’s knowledge of the subject is superb and he was brilliant at simplifying the more complicated topics and breaking down the longer questions into manageable sections. Would definitely recommend Adam.
Was very knowledgeable and understood how to help me when I couldn’t do the task. Helped me with my confidence in maths and explained things well when I was stuck.
Adam is a very thorough and reliable tutor. His genuine enthusiasm for his subjects are reflected in the learners quick uptake of the lesson. I have no doubt that Adam’s compatibility with his students and his great knowledge allow the pupil to fulfill their full potential and more under his guidance.
Not only trustworthy but brilliant. He tutored our year 7 student who is now doing GCSE topics at a high level and has just started his year 8 in a top independent school after scoring highly on the entrance exam. I cannot say enough of his brilliance Without sounding like it’s contrived but I cannot recommend him
Highly enough.View more recommendations
