About David
I am an interdisciplinary educator, researcher, and mentor with a Ph.D. in General Psychology. My background bridges the psychology of learning, quantitative research methodologies, the humanities, and STEM disciplines.
As an experienced student success professional, I bring over 10 years of practice in the South Bay. I specialize in supporting neurodiverse learners (including individuals with ADHD, dyslexia, and autism) using a sensitive, listening-first approach. By integrating data-informed decision-making with a passion for synthesizing insights across disparate fields, I help students navigate complex academic challenges and achieve long-term success.

My tutoring approach is based on a model I developed through my doctoral research, drawing on the relationship between intellectual humility and dispositional hope. Therefore, my sessions usually focus on mentorship and developing critical and analytical thinking, as well as literacy in information, data, and technology. I focus on holistic cognitive development and material mastery.
Depending on the student's needs and goals, I integrate software and data analysis tools such as Excel, SPSS, Jamovi, scientific and graphing calculators, and generative AI. I emphasize the ethical, responsible, and productive usage of these tools to expand ability and enhance individual intelligence while upholding strong academic integrity.
I have found that when students have the mental tools to understand a problem and devise pathways to solve it, learning comes much more naturally. This is my overarching philosophy. In practical terms, this shapes how I adapt academic material and my teaching methods to match each student's unique learning needs. While my students don't need to manage the psychological theories running behind the scenes, I share this philosophy so you understand how I evaluate, assess, and nurture progress.
The first lesson is an onboarding session to review your goals and specific learning needs or difficulties.
