About Owen

My name's Owen Wogmon, and I am an undergraduate at Brown University, currently concentrating in Neuroscience and Medieval cultures. Neuroscience is an interdisciplinary field that seeks to elucidate the mechanics of the nervous system, and Medieval Cultures is likewise a field that draws from medieval texts and archaeology to construct a picture of the past. From these fields, I've developed skills in a plethora of subjects, ranging from microbiology to essay-writing, and I love to teach others these skills.

In terms of extracurricular activities, I'm currently an editor with The Triple Helix, a student-run scientific publication at Brown. I'm also a member of Brown Synapse, a student group that provides services for those suffering from brain inury. In high school, I tutored in AP Biology, AP US History, English, and biomedical sciences. Additionally, I was President of National Honor Society, co-Founder of Model United Nations, and a member of HOSA.

I'm also heavily experienced with AP testing. I'm a National AP Scholar, having earned nine 5s and one 4 over the course of high school. These courses include but are not limited to AP Biology, AP Chemistry, AP US History, and AP Human Geography. I'm a naturally gifted test-taker and my studying methods have been praised throughout my academic career. I hope to provide others with these skills.

Finally, the following is a list of awards and honors I've earned: Outstanding Chemistry Student of 2019, Science Student of the Year, National AP Scholar, Captain of Varsity Men's Tennis, Captain of JV Men's Soccer, and Valedictorian of the Class of 2019.

If you should choose to pursue my services, here is a brief list of my goals as your tutor:

1. to teach problem-solving skills that transcend any one field

2. to teach excellence in the chosen field of study in two ways: in terms of understanding the content of the field, and in terms of applying learned knowledge.

3. to teach an understanding of not only the "how" behind problem-solving, but also the "why." (This makes learning significantly easier and enjoyable.)

4. to make learning pleasurable and intelligible.

There's a deep, intrinsic satisfaction that comes with successfully conveying knowledge to someone else. I think this is especially true with the sciences, becuase unlike many other fields, science endeavors to discover objective truth. The more you understand science, the more you begin to view it as not so much a singuar field, but rather a philosophy, a way of thinking. I want to spread this way of interpreting the world.
