About Courtney

I am currently in school receiving my Master's Degree in Human Nutrition, so I can relate to the challenges of homework, exams, and schooling. My main goal for tutoring goes beyond wanting to help students improve their grades. I want to teach students skills that will benefit them throughout their entire academic careers. My approach is student-centered, and I adjust my tutoring to the learning style and goals of the student.

I love school, but especially science and math. I enjoy learning about physiology, chemistry, and biology and teaching others about these subjects. I enjoy helping students understand difficult concepts and progress towards their goals.

I have always loved teaching, whether informally or for a job. My favorite way to study is by teaching fellow classmates about the material we are learning. In college, I had the opportunity to be a student-athlete tutor, and I loved it!

I graduated as my class salutatorian of Pepperdine University in 2020 with a Bachelor of Science in Nutritional Science. I tutored other student-athletes for one year during college. I also played DI soccer and was a captain during my senior year. I just completed my Dietetic Internship from OHSU, and I am now completing my Master's Degree in Human Nutrition from OHSU.

About the lesson

When I work with a new student, I first want to learn about them first. I ask about their learning style, what they hope to accomplish, and areas that they find challenging (i.e. projects, exams, papers, etc.). I will then tailor my tutor sessions to best support the student in their goals and endeavors.

During college, I tutored student-athletes in a variety of subjects, including general chemistry, cell biology, Spanish, and humanities.

If you are looking to hire a teacher, look for someone who is invested in both their students and the subject they teach. These teachers will be more engaging and will work hard to help their students succeed.
