About Hannah

Hello!

I have been a middle school teacher in the School District of Philadelphia for nearly 4 years. I taught 8th grade math for one year, seventh grade math for two years and I am now teaching seventh grade reading and writing. I am extremely experienced with breaking down math problems and concepts for both advanced and struggling students. I have also gained significant experience in working with middle and high school students on their reading and writing skills. Throughout the 2018-19 school year, all of my students showed at least one year of growth on the math PSSA exams.

There are few things I enjoy more than being able to help young people gain confidence in their academic abilities, both math and reading. I know how to help students achieve their goals by understanding their confusion and finding individualized and creative ways to explain the material. I know how it feels to struggle with math homework, and I know how to help students through it.

I have a Bachelor's degree in Psychology from Franklin and Marshall College. I have a teaching certification in Middle Grades Math and Reading and have been teaching for nearly 4 years.

About the lesson

I will speak with the student and their parent or guardian, if possible, about their struggle. Then, I will look at the student's work and begin to diagnose their mistakes and work with them to strengthen their understanding so they can complete the work correctly.

I have worked with students from a Kindergarten level to Seniors in high school, all within a middle school classroom. I have taught Special Education students in both math and reading. I have also taught ESOL students, to whom I taught Algebra and Geometry completely in Spanish.
