About Mark

I specialize in developing a love for music!

I've been playing on church stages for 20 years and on 2 continents.

I have performed live with adults, high school, and junior high students and I have 6 kids. I have experience with virtually all age groups and most personalities.

I have some experience teaching guitar to kids with physical and mental disabilities.

I would love to meet you in person or online and help you achieve your guitar goals!

I began teaching on the side and have developed a client base by positive word of mouth. I also began assisting with a lessons program that my church launched last year. I continue to teach there as well.

I have 20 years of performing experience, 2 years of teaching experience, am currently studying music at university, and have 2 years of retail music experience so I know what gear is appropriate and what it costs.

In addition, I'm employed by my church to work with minors so I've been background checked and am a mandatory reporter for child endangerment.

About the lesson

First I get to know a student and get an idea of what they already know.

Next I get a student started with a few simple excersizes or chord shapes and immediately work toward playing a song.

I also assess a student's guitar to make sure it is up to the task. A damaged or broken guitar can make learning nearly impossible. I'll make sure that doesn't happen to you.

I have worked with adults, teens and kids as young as 5 years old. I have worked with 1 student with physical disabilities.

Make sure you have a quality guitar. It doesn't have to be expensive. Probably equal to 1 or 2 months of lessons. A bad guitar can convince a student that they're incapable of improving.

Recently I taught a young student to play the happy birthday song and his parents were able to send the video to his grandmother in Eastern Europe. That was really special!

Also I recently helped two teenage students team up to write their first song. It's great to see people develop new skills!

Think of what playing guitar means for you. Is it playing songs with friends? Playing for your own emotional health? Playing for an audience? These things can make a difference in the plan right away.

My normal rate is $25 for 30 minutes for online lessons through Zoom. I also offer in home lessons for $30 dependent on home location.
