About Dan
SWISH- Special Workshops to Improve Social Health provides small group settings/workshops to assist students interact, socialize and learn together. I want to implement academic areas with a focus on special needs children ages 12-21.
I am a recently retired NYCDOE school administrator with an extensive focus in Special Education. My area was primarily all over Queens and Manhattan. In 2011 I was awarded the NYCDOE's Irish Administrator of the year award. I have seen minimal programs that address needed social skills and SWISH provides a small setting for excellent "hands on" opportunities. I want to focus this same approach NOW as we're beginning the first September post COVID 19.
As a Special Educator I have the drive, dedication and experience to help formulate a program during this time. As a former Assistant Principal of Home Instruction Schools I have experience with parents, teachers and schools. I am an advocate for children in the home, school and everywhere in between. As a retiree I want to give back especially during this time.
I enjoy watching students learn and share with one another. Students learn best through peers and to watch them collaborate together gives me joy as I see them gain self confidence. I also enjoy seeing students implement various strategies that we've reviewed and utilize them in real situations.
