About Adam

My name is Adam Simpson. I am a 2nd year Electrical Engineering and Computer Science student at UNSW. I have always had a passion for teaching, holding close to me that “the best way to learn is to teach”.

I completed year 12 of high school in the top 1% of all of South Africa in both Mathematics and Physics, for reference this is equivalent to a 99.95 ATAR and UNSW admissions grades it as such, which was a big part of the reason I was able to come and study here at a top 30 globally ranked university coming from my humble beginnings in South Africa.

I am eager to get to know you and help you through your high school grind, I know it seems tough now but believe me you’ll be wishing you enjoyed the moment a bit more looking back on it. Good luck and I hope to see you in one of my classes!

About the lesson

My lessons will adopt a blend of illustrative teaching and example based learning. For example a student might be struggling with a certain question in statistics, but upon further inspection is actually lacking a core understanding of a concept. Here I would go back to a ground roots/first principles level and identify exactly where the student’s gap in knowledge is, that way I am attacking the larger issue as opposed to simply showing them how to do a specific question.

Lessons will be approximately 1 hour in length but I am always happy to stay overtime to ensure the student is fully satisfied with their understanding of concepts they are struggling with.

Back in high school I was the head of the academic portfolio, this role meant I had to tutor and help students at all grades (7-12) and skill levels. I also tutored privately in my first year of university, I had 4 students in year 12 and all of their marks ended up significantly higher than when they started with me.

My lessons are for any high schoolers at any skill level I do believe year 12s will have the most to gain from lessons with me though due to their more advanced levels, once again I’m used to teaching at all different levels of skill and knowledge so all grades are welcome and I can guarantee the highest level of teaching no matter what grade you are in. In terms of the type of lesson I predominantly specialise in 1 on 1 tutoring however I have experience in a group setting as well where my tactic is to talk to each student individually at the start of the lesson and then have them complete some examples based on a concept they are struggling with and then go to each participant individually and provide them with help where they need it.
