About Joan

I have had a great deal of experience tutoring students on an individual basis. Individual assistance was very much a part of my time spent in the regular classroom. I have homeschooled students and am presently the coordinator for the Learning Center for a community college. I also tutor the TEAS test in both a classroom setting and on an individual basis. I would confidently say that the students I have worked with have significantly increased their success rate in whatever subject or testing situation for which they needed help. I take pride in the success of my students. I feel a large part of this comes from their increased confidence that they are capable of being successful in whatever they choose to pursue.

About the lesson

As a tutor the process must begin with a evaluation of what the student already knows and how the student learns. I fully appreciate the diversity of learners and as a result I will determine and utilize the study method that will be most effective for each student's learning style. I also attempt to make a tutoring session that is characterized by success and relieve any anxieties the learner may possess. I think learning should be fun.
I have been working in education for 45 years. My longevity is attributed to my love of my subject and my love of teaching. I have a BSEd in Biology and MAEd in the physical sciences. I taught AP Biology for 30 years prior to my retirement from a regular classroom setting. I have worked as a long-term substitute, an instructional coach to classroom teachers and am presently employed at Southwestern Community college as the Learning Center Coordinatory and an adjunct instructor.

Details

Transportation fee will only apply for students more than 16 miles from my home base. No transportation fee for online tutoring. Lesson packs will be scheduled for the same time each week. 50% of lesson pack fee is due in advance.
