About Charlotte

Charlotte is an experienced History and Classical Civilisation teacher completing a PGCE (History) at the University of Oxford in 2012-13.

She is now a professional tutor and examiner, tutoring students (currently online) from her garden office in Wimbledon Village, South West London, SW19.

Charlotte was for over five years Head of History and Classical Civilisation at one of London’s leading state schools. During this time she has supported students aged 11-18 of all academic starting points to become confident and independent learners and develop a love of learning. Her students have gone on to achieve exceptional results at both GCSE and A Level.

Charlotte is experienced in supporting students with SEN such as dyslexia to ensure that they can flourish and achieve their potential. She has worked with hundreds of students to consistently achieve excellent results at both GCSE and A Level. Many students have gone on to read history and related subjects at Oxbridge and The Russell Group. Alongside her department role Charlotte has been a Lead Practitioner responsible for the More Able provision across the school and ensures that the brightest students also reach their full potential.

Charlotte tutors GCSE History including assisting with content, exam technique and essay writing. She is an Edexcel GCSE examiner and has a thorough understanding of the requirements of the examinations and how to be a successful and independent learner. Charlotte also tutors A Level History with significant teaching experience of both Edexcel and OCR including outstanding results in the coursework units. Charlotte also provides excellent support to those studying GCSE and A Level Classical Civilisation and her sixth formers have achieved some of the best marks in the country. Charlotte is very welcoming to those of all academic starting points. In addition Charlotte is an experienced sixth form tutor and supports students applying to a range of courses through the university application process.

Charlotte believes that developing confidence and improving metacognition (the act of learning how we learn) is key to a student's success. She has years of experience supporting students with debating and recently coached a mock trial team who represented London at the national final. Before teaching Charlotte was a project coordinator at the national youth charity, Girlguiding UK and volunteered with youth groups with students aged 5-15 for over ten years.
