About Genevieve

My experience and education set me apart. I was an in-person special needs tutor for three years for a high school student with severe ADHD. My student was incredibly successful: he needed 15 hours per week of tutoring when I started, and when we stopped (because he graduated from high school), he only needed 3 hours per week of tutoring. He had such a positive experience that he texts me from time to time to catch up. My education includes a Master's and Bachelor's of Science in Chemistry from Arizona State University. I won the National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship (NSF GRFP), a prestigious, $100,000+ award for the top U.S. graduate students, and the NSF Integrative Graduate Education and Research Traineeship: Solar Utilization Network (NSF IGERT-SUN), as well as a National Merit Scholarship. Because of this background, I am most comfortable tutoring STEM topics from the absolute basics through the early college level to students middle school age or older.

About the lesson

My instruction is tailored to your assignments or goals in the classroom. I start by asking questions, so I know what your knowledge gaps are, and then we attack them together. I try to use real-world examples that are relevant to you, to make the experience as engaging and memorable as possible. I am patient and do not mind repeating myself to help you remember, and at the same time I stay focused on your goals so that we don't waste time.

I focus on tutoring STEM subjects from the absolute basics to early college level, and I prefer to work with students that are middle school age or older (including adults).

I can relate to students who love school and want to get ahead as well as students who see it as a possibly-unnecessary evil. My approach incorporates what I have learned about pacing oneself, self-compassion, and courage in the learning process. You got this!

Prep time: $50/hr (not in the presence of the student. Example activities include reviewing new assignment materials, studying old tests/assignments to better understand student's knowledge gaps, and customizing study materials for student.)
