About Travis
I'm a certified Special Educator with 10 years of experience in public schools, and tutoring. According to a parent of one student I "saved his 5th grade year." Working in a public school, a supervisor threatened to "Super-glue me to the floor if I tried to leave." At the same school, a student with an intellectual disability recovered 4 years worth of lost learning in just one school year.

My teaching method is based on building off of existing knowledge, and interests. Most kindergarteners are familiar with the Count, Cookie Monster, and Oscar the Grouch. By using these characters to illustrate concepts, I can build excitement about learning, and reveal existing knowledge that can build the foundation for new learning. Older kids have interests and hobbies that can be used as a basis for mnemonic devices, illustration, and motivation.
