About Appitha
I’m Dr Appitha Eakin, a qualified secondary science teacher with a PhD in cancer molecular imaging and several years of experience teaching biology, chemistry and physics from KS3 to KS5. Before becoming a teacher, I worked in scientific research and medical writing, which taught me how to explain complex ideas clearly and confidently.
I chose to teach because I genuinely believe science can open doors for young people, no matter their starting point. I’ve worked with learners of all abilities — including students with SEND, EHCPs and IEPs — and I love helping them realise that they can understand science and succeed in it. Seeing a student grow in confidence, grasp a difficult concept, or achieve a grade they didn’t think was possible is what motivates me every day.
My goal is simple: to make science feel accessible, manageable and even enjoyable. I want my students to feel supported, understood and proud of their progress, whether they’re building foundations, preparing for exams or aiming high.

I take a calm, structured and adaptive approach to tutoring, using modelling, scaffolding, retrieval practice and dual coding to make science clear and accessible.
Lessons typically last 60 minutes, with shorter or longer options available.
I am a qualified secondary science teacher (PGCE with QTS, Distinction) and teach KS3–KS5 biology, chemistry and physics.
My experience includes supporting learners with SEND, EHCPs and IEPs, and delivering targeted interventions for GCSE and A-level success.
I break complex ideas into manageable steps and check understanding frequently.
My teaching is patient, encouraging and focused on building confidence.
I tailor every session to the student’s pace, needs and goals.
My lessons are aimed at students aged 11–18 who need personalised support.
This includes foundation-building, exam preparation and stretch for high achievers.
My goal is to help every learner feel capable, motivated and proud of their progress.
