About Valerie

Hello! My name is Valerie, and I believe every student has the ability to become a confident reader with the right guidance, encouragement, and support. My teaching style is patient, engaging, and personalized because I know that every learner develops at their own pace.

I bring years of professional experience teaching and mentoring people with a wide range of learning styles. Throughout my career in education technology, I have created training materials, instructional videos, and one-on-one learning experiences that helped students, educators, and staff understand complex concepts with confidence. I have learned that the best teachers are not just knowledgeable, they know how to explain ideas in a way that makes each student feel capable and successful.

My lessons are structured but flexible. We begin by reviewing previous skills, then work through reading activities focused on phonics, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, and critical thinking. I continuously adapt my approach based on each student's strengths, challenges, and interests, ensuring every lesson is both productive and enjoyable. My goal is not simply to improve reading scores, but to help students build the confidence to read independently and enjoy learning.

I work with beginning readers, elementary and middle school students, English language learners, and anyone looking to strengthen their reading comprehension and fluency. About the lesson

My approach as a reading tutor is built on patience, encouragement, and meeting each student where they are. I believe confidence is just as important as skill, so I create a supportive environment where students feel comfortable making mistakes, asking questions, and celebrating progress. Rather than simply teaching students what to read, I teach them how to become confident, independent readers.

Each lesson is personalized to the student's age, reading level, and goals. A typical session begins with a brief review of previous concepts, followed by guided reading to assess fluency, pronunciation, and comprehension. I incorporate phonics, vocabulary development, comprehension strategies, and critical thinking activities, while using positive reinforcement throughout the lesson. Every session ends with a review of achievements, constructive feedback, and a clear goal for the next lesson.

What sets me apart is my ability to explain concepts in ways that make sense to each individual learner. Throughout my career, I have trained adults, created instructional videos and documentation, and taught complex technology concepts to users with varying levels of experience. These experiences have strengthened my ability to communicate clearly, adapt my teaching style, and recognize when a student needs a different approach. My background in education technology has reinforced the importance of patience, structure, and making learning engaging for every student.
