About Jessica

I am a passionate primary school teacher with 14 years of experience. I absolutely love being a mum and spending time with my 2-year-old son. We enjoy reading, playing outside, making crafts, and building things together.

I love teaching and I love interacting with and supporting students in their pathways toward greatness. The best part of teaching is watching students succeed. Every student is different, an individual, and has their own talents and interests. Getting to know these and watching students pave their pathway to becoming an adult is always a rewarding addition to my work.

I am a qualified yoga teacher for children so believe in the importance of being present, calm, and kind.

About the lesson

I have been teaching primary school students in Australia for 14 years and New Zealand for a term. I believe an hour per subject is a good amount of time to grasp the learning of a lesson, but I can be flexible on this if needed.

I believe it is important for students to know exactly what they are learning and why it is important, as well as what they need to show/do in order to be successful so all lessons will have a learning intention and success criteria.

I follow the gradual release of responsibility model which means all lessons follow a structure of:
1. "I do" - where I show or model the learning intention for the lesson.
2. "We do" - where we have a go at being successful at the learning intention together. Collaboration and support in being successful is an important parts of the learning journey.
3. "You do" - where the student has a go at the learning task and attempts to meet the success criteria independently.

All lessons will involve ongoing feedback, time to ask questions or reclarify anything that is not making sense or any areas of confusion.

It is important to know where the student is at and create individual goals and learning pathways through ongoing assessments that can be informal (learning attempts) and formal (assignments, tasks, or projects).

I have a passion for student well-being and will always build a rapport with the student to ensure they feel understood, supported, and safe when working with me. The student's well-being is my number 1 priority, and their academic ability comes second to that.
