About Sophie
I’m a piano tutor with 2 years of teaching experience and a Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) in Piano Performance. My teaching focuses on guiding passionate students towards advanced jazz piano studies and professional-level musicianship. I enjoy supporting learners who are preparing for conservatory programmes like Berklee, Juilliard, and other respected jazz schools.
My lessons balance strong technical development with creative expression. Students learn jazz harmony, chord voicings, improvisation techniques, and rhythmic flexibility. These skills form the foundation of confident jazz playing.
We also study jazz repertoire and explore ways to interpret it with originality and style. Improvisation becomes a powerful tool for musical storytelling. I encourage students to develop their own voice at the piano.

My teaching methodology centres on understanding classical piano as both an art and a historical tradition. I help students build solid technical skills while developing a deeper appreciation for the music they perform. Technique is important, but musical meaning is just as essential.
In lessons, we carefully analyse classical repertoire. Students learn how musical forms like sonata form and variations shape the structure of a piece. This knowledge allows them to perform with greater clarity and direction.
We also explore the historical background of composers and the cultural world in which they wrote their music. Understanding these influences helps students interpret pieces more authentically.
Expressive interpretation plays a central role in my teaching. Students learn to shape phrases, explore dynamics, and communicate emotion through the piano. I enjoy supporting learners who want to perform with sensitivity and personal expression. My goal is to refine their musical voice and deepen their connection with classical music. Together we transform notes on a page into living art.
