About Joseph
Dr. Martinez is a veteran music teacher who has been in the Valley for over 25 years and has taught every instrument in some capacity or form. He taught Middle School band, orchestra, general music, guitar, keyboard for the Cartwright School District in west Phoenix for 20 years. He currently teaches guitar and keyboard at Tolleson Union High School District. In addition, he teaches several music history classes through the Maricopa County Community College District, instructs guitar and piano through the 21st Century After-School Program, is an advisor for the school drama department, teaches privately for various music studios around the valley, is a peer-counselor for underclassmen at Estrella Mountain and Rio Salado Community Colleges, and is the principle accompanist for Luke Airforce Base. He has worked with countless charitable organizations as an advisor and teacher at the Salvation Army and Boys and Girls Club of Phoenix. Martinez is a sought out clinician, teacher, professional educator, and performer that believes in music education as a way to enlighten, enrich, and foster well-rounded students for the next generation.
Martinez graduated with a Bachelors and Masters Degree in music from NMSU, a Masters Degree in Counseling and Psychology from Capella University, and completed all coursework for a PhD in Secondary and Adult Education. In addition, he has completed studies, work, and in-services in ELL, Gifted, SEI, Middle School, Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) certificates.
In his spare time, Martinez enjoys hiking, biking, jogging, running, learning new things, traveling, volunteering, and spending time with family and friends. He is a true life-long learner and constantly tries to learn and encourage new instruments.

25 year veteran music teacher with experience teaching all instruments, styles, ages, and levels. I have a Bachelors, Masters, PhD in music and secondary education with plenty of experience teaching group, individual, and buddy lessons at all levels and expertise. I am friendly, easy to get along, knowledgeable about all instruments, have a flexible schedule, and am willing to negotiate time, place, and fees.
