About Rachel

Rachel is a classically trained freelance performer and teacher with over 10 years of teaching experience. She has performed with the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra and was the lead cellist for the multi-award-winning theatre company, The ELO Experience, for nine years. She has also provided cello tutor cover for the Nottingham Youth Orchestra as well as her 1-1 tuition. Rachel has a First class performance degree with Honours from the Manchester conservatoire, the Royal Northern College of Music, with a passion for teaching.

Rachel has a Young Talent Award from the Musicians Benevolent Trust and from the EMI Sound Foundation, and at fourteen won the Warrington Young Musician and Chester Young Musician competitions. Rachel has given solo recitals at St. John's Chester, Chester Town hall, Holy Trinity Warrington, St. Mary's Centre, and has performed as an orchestral soloist. Recent performance venues have included the Royal Albert Hall, London, and Nottingham’s Motorpoint Arena.

About the lesson

Lessons are offered for both exam preparation and casual learning to suit the individual (beginners to advanced/conservatoire standard). Students come with different goals for their sessions, often to learn a new skill, improve technique, or to rebuild confidence and reconnect with music. All students are warmly welcomed, and supported at a pace that remains enjoyable and sustainable. Lessons can be short or long-term depending on the student’s goals.

Rachel is based in Beeston, offering in-person lessons at Turner Violins’ instrument shop and teaching room with experienced luthiers on-site. Lessons can also take place from the student’s home within Nottingham or online.
