About Eleanor

I am an experienced teacher and tutor with a strong passion for helping students discover what they are capable of. I took Maths, Latin, Ancient Greek and Music for A-level, graduated from the University of Exeter with a BA and MA in Classics and completed my PGCE at the University of Cambridge. I have three years of teaching experience, alongside previous experience as a teaching assistant and private tutor.

What I enjoyed most about teaching was providing one-to-one clinics and seeing students steadily, and often much more quickly, improve when they received focused support tailored to their individual needs. One of the most rewarding moments was seeing that point where something finally clicked for a student — when a concept or a skill that had previously seemed difficult suddenly became clear and they realised they were capable of doing it themselves.

I believe strongly in academic rigour and encouraging every student to reach their full potential. At the same time, I recognise that students learn most effectively when they receive personalised feedback that identifies exactly what they are doing well and, importantly, what they can do to improve. I therefore make detailed, constructive feedback an important part of my teaching.

I also believe that regular exam practice is essential. Understanding the content is only part of succeeding in an examination; students need to become confident applying their knowledge under exam conditions and learn how to structure precise, well-developed answers. I combine teaching and discussion with guided practice, targeted questioning and exam-style tasks so that students can build both their knowledge and their confidence.

I enjoy teaching because it is incredibly rewarding to see students develop not only academically but also in their confidence and independence. My aim is to provide supportive, challenging and personalised tuition that helps each student make meaningful progress and achieve their full potential.

About the lesson

My Maths lessons are structured around developing secure understanding through focused teaching and plenty of practice. I generally concentrate on one topic at a time, allowing enough time to explore the underlying concepts in depth before putting them into practice.

I believe that Maths is best learned by doing, so lessons include plenty of carefully chosen practice questions alongside worked examples. As students become more confident, I introduce increasingly challenging and exam-style questions, helping them develop the ability to apply their knowledge in unfamiliar situations.

I provide detailed feedback throughout the lesson, identifying misconceptions and helping students understand not only what the correct answer is, but why it is correct. We can also work through questions step-by-step together before students attempt similar problems independently.

For students who need more comprehensive support, I can create a structured scheme of work tailored to their individual needs, working systematically through the required material. Equally, I can provide targeted exam preparation, focusing specifically on weaker topics and developing exam technique.

My aim is to build both mathematical understanding and confidence, so that students become increasingly able to approach unfamiliar problems independently.
