About Anthony

I am a Mandarin Coach specialising in helping learners develop practical, real-world Chinese communication skills with clarity and confidence. My teaching approach is student-centred and structured, combining natural language learning with clear English explanations to ensure full understanding of grammar and vocabulary. I focus on helping learners build confidence in using Mandarin effectively in real-life and professional contexts, rather than memorisation alone. I have had the privilege of delivering Mandarin training to several UK public sector organisations, including the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), UK Export Finance (UKEF), and the National Crime Agency (NCA). These experiences have shaped my ability to provide high-quality, professional, and goal-oriented language coaching for learners with serious objectives.

About the lesson

My Mandarin lessons are fully tailored to your goals, background, and learning style, with a strong focus on building practical communication skills and real conversational confidence. I take a structured but flexible coaching approach, combining clear explanations, guided practice, and real-life application to help you use Mandarin naturally and effectively. Mistakes are seen as an essential part of the learning process, and lessons are designed to be supportive, encouraging, and low-pressure. Whether you are preparing for GCSE or A-Level Chinese, working with Chinese-speaking clients, or learning Mandarin for personal or professional interest, each session is adapted to your specific objectives and progress. You will also receive personalised materials, audio resources, and targeted feedback to support continuous improvement between lessons. A clear learning plan is developed collaboratively to ensure steady, confident progress over time.

I’ve been learning Mandarin Chinese with Anthony and I couldn’t recommend him highly enough. He uses a wide range of tools both during the tutoring sessions and outside of them to support my learning over the long term, which has really helped me stay consistent and continue improving between lessons.

Anthony is always happy, patient and polite, which creates a really comfortable learning environment. What I appreciate most is how dynamic his teaching is — he adapts the lessons to suit my needs and interests, and being a native speaker himself means he can teach very relevant vocabulary and real-life language that I can actually use.

If you’re looking for a Mandarin tutor who is supportive, engaging and genuinely invested in your progress, Anthony is an excellent choice.
