About Sallyann
My entire teaching career has been focused on A-level Chemistry, with 19 years’ experience teaching in a Sixth-Form college. This has given me a detailed understanding of the course and of the common mistakes, misconceptions and areas of difficulty that arise at different stages. I know which ideas need particular emphasis, how topics connect across the course and where students are most likely to lose marks.
I have a First class BSc(Hons) in Biochemistry and Chemistry and a PGCE in Post-Compulsory Education, together with extensive experience of assessment and examination marking. I specialise in OCR B Salters and also teach OCR A. I hold an Enhanced DBS certificate, issued in August 2026.
I genuinely enjoy teaching Chemistry and helping students make sense of ideas they have previously found confusing. One of the most rewarding parts of tutoring is finishing a session knowing that a student understands something more clearly and feels better equipped to tackle it independently.

My lessons are tailored to the individual student rather than following a fixed programme. I begin by identifying gaps in knowledge, misconceptions and recurring mistakes, then explain the underlying chemistry clearly and carefully. I use questioning, worked examples and exam-style problems to help students understand not only what to do, but why each step is needed.
Sessions can focus on difficult topics, calculations, practical and analytical skills, organic mechanisms, current schoolwork, revision or exam technique. I also help students interpret unfamiliar questions, structure longer answers and use the precise wording needed to gain marks.
Lessons are usually one hour long. They are suitable both for students who need help rebuilding their confidence and for those aiming for the highest grades. I specialise in OCR B Salters and also teach OCR A.
I bring 19 years’ experience of teaching A-level Chemistry in a Sixth-Form college, together with extensive experience of assessment and examination marking.
My aim is not simply to help students memorise answers, but to help them understand the chemistry well enough to apply their knowledge accurately and independently.
