About Mrs GP

Hello! My name is Mrs. GP, and I am happy you are here. I am a certified special education teacher with 20 years of experience supporting students with diverse learning needs. I have advanced teaching degrees, and will earn my doctoral degree in special education in 2027. I currently teach high school English in a virtual setting and have taught students from middle school through college, including GED preparation and positive behavior support programs.

My philosophy is simple: relationships come first. Before we jump into content, I focus on building trust and rapport because students learn best when they feel safe, seen, and supported. Anxiety and learning do not make good partners. When students begin to relax and believe they can succeed, confidence starts to replace fear.

I use research-based, specially designed instructional strategies to scaffold learning and meet students where they are. Along the way, I naturally embed practical skills such as pacing, organization, self-monitoring, and emotional regulation because these are life skills every learner can benefit from. My experience and the research have shown me that confidence fuels motivation, and motivation creates lasting growth.

I also believe families are essential partners in the learning process. I maintain close communication with parents and value collaboration, listening, and shared problem-solving. In addition to academic skills, I incorporate social-emotional learning practices inspired by the CASEL framework to help students develop self-awareness, self-management, and the confidence needed to thrive both inside and outside the classroom.

Whether your learner needs support in reading, writing, study skills, executive functioning, or simply needs someone who understands how to teach with patience and encouragement, I strive to create a learning environment where students feel safe enough to grow and challenged enough to succeed.

About the lesson

My lessons are personalized to meet your learner's unique needs and strengths. With 20 years experience in special education and high school English, I provide structured support in reading, writing, and executive functioning, and study skills. I specialize in working with autistic students and those with ADHD, helping learners build confidence, independence, and academic success through engaging, individualized instruction.

I believe that effective teaching begins with respect and relationships. Students learn best when they feel safe, understood, and valued. I take time to build rapport and establish trust because anxious learning is rarely effective. My goal is not to rush through content but to help students develop confidence and independence along the way.

My lessons are highly individualized and designed to meet students where they are. Rather than overwhelming learners, I scaffold instruction into manageable steps, allowing students to experience success early and often. I use a variety of evidence-based instructional strategies and adapt lessons to each learner's strengths, interests, and learning preferences. Learning should feel organized and purposeful, never forced.

A typical lesson begins with a check-in and review of previous learning. Together, we establish a clear goal and work through new concepts using guided practice, visual supports, examples, and meaningful discussion. As students gain confidence, support is gradually reduced to encourage independence. Throughout the lesson, I naturally teach organization, pacing, self-monitoring, and emotional regulation strategies that help students become more successful learners both inside and outside the classroom.

I maintain high expectations while providing encouragement, patience, and positive support. I believe mistakes are opportunities for growth, and I strive to create an environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, taking risks, and celebrating progress. Communication with families is important to me, and I value collaboration to ensure that each learner receives the support they need to thrive.

Above all, I want students to leave each lesson feeling more confident than when they arrived. My goal is not simply to complete assignments but to help students discover that they are capable, resilient, and able to succeed.
