I like to fuse actually playing music with education. After establishing the basics I typically teach the student new skills by teaching them a song that demonstrates said skill and can be used as a way to memorize this skill and to prove that the student is capable of using this skill. After I reasonably certain the student has the skill on their grasp they will be required to create their own song demonstrating the acquired skill.
