About James

With a strong background in food and nutrition science, I bring a wealth of knowledge to help students excel in their academic pursuits. Having recently graduated from the University of Adelaide with a Bachelor's degree in Food and Nutrition Science, I specialize in microbiology, biochemistry, nutrition, physiology, and food science. I have developed a deep understanding of critical thinking, research methodologies, and analytical skills, and I am currently pursuing a Master’s in Dietetics at Flinders University. As a tutor, I focus on delivering personalized and engaging lessons tailored to the individual needs of each student. My teaching methods are interactive, emphasizing real-world applications to make learning both relatable and enjoyable. I aim to inspire curiosity and help students build a strong foundation in their subjects. I offer tutoring for high school and university students in subjects such as biology, nutrition, and food science. My lessons typically last one hour, but I am flexible based on the student's needs and preferences. Whether your goal is to improve your grades or deepen your understanding of these topics, I am dedicated to helping you achieve success with confidence and clarity. Additionally, I am proud to be an LGBTIQ+ friendly tutor, creating a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment for all students. I believe that education should be accessible to everyone, regardless of gender identity or orientation, and I am committed to fostering a space where students feel respected, supported, and empowered.

I offer both online and in-person lessons. I adopt and adapt my teaching style to the individual skill set and requirements of the students. I focus on breaking down complex concepts into bite-sized, digestible pieces. I utilize a mixture of visuals, mnemonics, & spaced repetition to make the learning process engaging and relevant. However, I am happy to accommodate if a student prefers a learning technique. Additionally, emphasizing active learning, participation in discussion and application of their knowledge through problem-solving activities is something I do additionally well. I make use of real-life case examples (especially in biology and nutrition) to deepen abstract comprehension. Typically, each lesson lasts between 60 to 90 minutes, depending on the student's needs and abilities. The length allows me to cover new material, engage concepts of concern without overwhelming the student. With regard to experience, I have been a tutor for the past 10 years intermittently, I hold a Bachelor's of Food and Nutrition Science (pre-dietetics pathway) from the University of Adelaide, graduating with Dux distinction. I have an extensive academic background and understanding of biology, molecular/cellular biology, biochemistry, microbiology, physiology, and food science. My lessons are generally designed for high school and university students, year 10—undergraduates who need extra support. I welcome learners of all ages and skill levels, or anyone who is looking to strengthen their understanding, I can provide support to help meet your learning goals.
