About Caitlin

Learning is so much more than just school, and I want to be able to encourage students to be open to learning, and enjoy it, by creating lessons that are personal to the student, and are made to help them learn in the way that is most effective for them. I was lucky in my education, and it has resulted in me continuing to be interested in learning as an adult, I would like to pass this on as once you know how to learn, the world opens up for you!
I have taught students with a range of abilities, ages and personal situations so I am always able to relate to a student on some level, building trust that results in a comfortable learning environment, bringing students a stronger sense of achievement. I am 23, so I remember what school was like, and how hard things can be - I will never judge a student, only be proud of their progress and successes.

I definitely learn from students as much as they learn from me, and I think this makes sessions with me much less intimidating as we are both their to learn.

About the lesson

Personally, I choose to work with the student to understand how they learn best - this may mean that our first session will involve discussion, both personal and with academics included to gain a good understanding of what suite the student best. I generally would schedule sessions between 1 and 2 hours, the timing of these can be flexible. My experience lies with teaching students between the ages of 11 and 17, however I do have experience working with younger children and can be very adaptable. I completed GCSEs and A-Levels in the UK to a high standard and currently am working towards my undergraduate degree in Marketing.

I am currently in my second year of tutoring, particularly working with students who have special educational needs are home schooled, acting as their primary educator. In addition, I have worked with young people in schools who need extra support, and those planning to go back to school. I would like to apply these skills in a new community!

As well as this, I have experience looking after children at a range of ages, and my skills as a tutor definitely improve my ability to do this, as I work with all children with patience and the aim to understand them. I am a calm and flexible teacher, always keen to find new ways of explaining subjects and truly understanding the best way that your child learns. I learn from them as much as they learn from me!

I was very fortunate in my education and would like to pass that experience on, in a relaxed and pressure-free environment for students who may not be finding school too easy. I have found with previous students, that having that extra support on an academic and personal level can make a huge difference in their confidence in their own abilities, which translates directly to improving their skills in practice.
