About James
Hello! My name is James and I have over 15 years teaching experience in ESOL, Practical & Theoretical Art and Art History. I hold an MA in Visual Culture, a BA in Fine Art and a CELTA teaching qualification. When not teaching, I am a practising artist and art writer for an online cultural magazine. I love teaching students in an open and relaxed way, where all lessons are adapted to suit their needs and requirements, all whilst focusing on and achieving excellent outcomes. I am available to teach ESOL (both writing and oracy), Art (both practical and theory) and Art History. I have experience teaching 1:1, in groups and whole classes and I have taught students aged from 10 - 70! My most recent School placement was in an FE college, though. I am able to teach both in person and online and I can be flexible with timings. I am based in central London (SW3) but am able to travel within London and the outskirts.

My approach to teaching is personalised and student-focused. I will take the time to learn what makes the student 'tick' and then create lessons to ensure best outcomes that really pinpoint the areas required to progress in. Personable and approachable, I pride myself on my relationship-building skills; happy, relaxed students learn best and I work hard to ensure they develop confidence to do their very best. Lessons are bespoke and adaptable, according to the need / age / stage of the student, but typically they would last from 40 minutes to 90 minutes. I have an MA in Visual Culture, a BA in Fine Art, and a CELTA teaching qualification, and I have over 15 years of practical classroom experience, both in language colleges and Further Education settings. I have taught 1:1, in groups and whole classes. My lessons are best suited for students aged 16+, however, I have worked with students who are 10-70 years old, so I am flexible! I have worked with students with a range of SEND, including ADHD, Autism, anxiety disorders and Dyslexia. Moreover, I have taught multi-national students with a wide range of home languages.
