About Timothy
I loved studying English when I was at school and university, and I want to inspire that same passion for English in my students. I've had plenty of students before who came into the lessons telling me they hate English and either left loving English, or hating it less than they did before.
It's very fulfilling to help students attain better futures and become better communicators and creative writers. Writing stories, songs, poems, scripts gives one a great amount of purpose and it's a great way to improve writing; something I'd really encourage.
My favourite book is Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.
My favourite film is Hot Fuzz.
My favourite musical artists are Kanye West, The Beatles and Radiohead.
My favourite video games are Ratchet and Clank, and The Arkham Series.

My students study literature to help them learn about themselves and the wider world, as well as to gain the analytical skills which they will use in real world contexts, and of course: their exams.. I make the lessons engaging and fun; if students enjoy English they're more likely to do well in it, but also to gain and use the skills which may give them a fuller understanding of the world in which they live.
For KS4 and KS5 there is of course a focus on exam preparation and so an emphasis on practicing past papers and improving exam technique.
A lesson will typically be an hour, though I'm happy to cater for shorter or longer lessons, dependant on the needs of the student.
I've been tutoring since the pandemic and have found it very fulfilling to assist students in attaining better futures for themselves, and to guide them through some amazing works of literature.
I have a First Class BA(hons) degree in English with Film and TV Studies from Brunel University, London. I received the award for best performing graduate on my course. I graduated in 2018.
I have had experience using my English skills in contexts outside of education also, having worked in the Film and TV industry, and I bare in mind the importance of what I teach to students' lives post-education.
