Learning to speak English can be fun. It opens the door to a new world and friends. Learning the idioms, phrases and where they came from is fun and helpful. Speaking comes first. A typical lesson plan includes all of this and eventually expands to reading and writing.
I am someone who has lived in and worked in Europe and Asia. In order to work there, I had to learn the language and understand it well enough to understand orders from my boss. I struggled to learn Dutch. I had six semesters of Spanish in college and am now learning French because I live there part of the year. I still struggle not to mix all the languages together.
I have taught K-12 as a substitute teacher, writing essays and creative pieces, taught adult expats and am a published author of books and short stories.
