About Eve Maree
Hello! I'm a native English speaker, fluent in Portuguese, with over 25 years of experience teaching English and helping students build confidence, fluency, and a genuine love of the language.
I have a special passion for working with mature adults and I have witnessed firsthand the positive impact that learning a second language can have on confidence, mental engagement, and lifelong learning. This inspired me to explore the research on how language learning can support brain health, improve memory, strengthen concentration, and promote cognitive well-being as we age.
My lessons go beyond traditional language classes. Through my English Book Club, students read and discuss famous short stories in a friendly, interactive environment. Together, we explore vocabulary, pronunciation, plot, and characters while practising natural conversation and sharing ideas. It's a relaxed and enjoyable way to improve English, meet like-minded people, and keep the mind active.
Whether you're learning for travel, personal enrichment, or simply to challenge yourself, my goal is to help you enjoy the process, gain confidence, and discover that it's never too late to learn something new.

My lessons are designed for adults and mature learners who want to improve their English while keeping their minds active and engaged. I combine language learning with cognitive stimulation, creating a relaxed and enjoyable environment where students build confidence, improve communication skills, and exercise their memory at the same time.
My teaching approach is based on reading and discussing famous short stories by renowned authors such as Agatha Christie, O. Henry, Arthur Conan Doyle, and many others. During each lesson, students read passages aloud to develop pronunciation, fluency, and speaking confidence. We then explore the plot, characters, vocabulary, and themes through guided discussion, interpretation, and comprehension activities.
To reinforce learning and strengthen memory, I provide follow-up questions, vocabulary practice, and short homework activities that encourage students to recall information, make connections, and continue thinking in English between lessons. This approach naturally develops reading, listening, speaking, and critical thinking skills while keeping the brain active.
Each lesson typically lasts 60 minutes and is tailored to the student's level, pace, and personal interests. Whether your goal is to maintain your English, improve your fluency, prepare for travel, or simply enjoy learning in a meaningful way, every lesson is personalised to help you succeed.
I bring more than 25 years of experience in English language teaching, academic leadership, and student support. Throughout my career, I have worked with learners from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds, helping them achieve their goals through engaging, student-centred lessons.
My lessons are ideal for adult and mature learners (40+), particularly those with an intermediate or advanced level of English who enjoy reading, conversation, lifelong learning, and are interested in supporting their cognitive health while improving their language skills.
