About Olessia
# About Me
I’m a qualified secondary English teacher with eight years’ experience teaching in schools, alongside three years of private tutoring with individual students and small groups. I hold a first-class degree in English Language and Literature, Qualified Teacher Status and a TESOL certificate.
I’ve always loved English as a subject, especially the way it helps students find their own voice and build confidence in how they express themselves. Over the years, I’ve worked with students of all abilities across KS3, GCSE and A-level, from those who need support to build core skills to those aiming for the highest grades. I also have experience delivering focused exam preparation and intensive revision courses.
Creative writing is a particular passion of mine and was the focus of my university dissertation, so I especially enjoy helping students develop their ideas and write with more confidence and originality.
What I enjoy most about tutoring is getting to know each student as an individual and helping them feel more secure in their abilities. I understand that progress in English is often closely linked to confidence, and I aim to create a calm, supportive space where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes and improving at their own pace.

Lessons usually last 60 minutes and are planned around the individual student rather than following a one-size-fits-all programme.
A typical lesson begins with a short check-in and recap before focusing on one or two clear areas for improvement. Depending on the student, this might involve analysing a text together, modelling an effective paragraph, planning an essay, practising creative writing, working through an exam question or reviewing a piece of their own work.
I use discussion and questioning throughout, so students are actively thinking rather than simply listening. We might annotate a text together, compare their response with the assessment criteria, improve a paragraph collaboratively and then finish with a short independent task to put the skill into practice.
For exam students, lessons draw on the relevant specification, assessment objectives, mark schemes and past-paper style questions. Feedback is clear and specific, so students leave knowing what they have done well, what needs improvement and what to focus on next.
Lessons are available for KS3, GCSE and A-level students, including home-educated learners and private candidates.

Olessia is an exceptional teacher of English who inspires and touches the hearts of everybody she knows. Having worked and collaborated with her across key stages 3, 4, and 5, I have the utmost professional trust in her to put the needs and progress of others at her highest priority. She has supported me significantly in a professional capacity, aiding my confidence and ability to deliver the A Level curriculum and believe in my own teaching philosophy. It is with this same honest, encouraging, and gentle care with which she fosters courage in her own students. I have observed Olessia’s lessons at key stage three and have left feeling armed with an arsenal of tips and ideas for my own practice. Her resilience and dedication to the cause is second to none. Nothing gets in the way of her mission to fulfil the academic and personal strengths of her students. I feel very lucky to have made professional acquaintance and personal friendship with Olessia and have every faith that students will leave her sessions feeling nothing less than totally inspired, full of self-belief, and skilled to achieve their goals.
