About Teri
Hi, I’m Teri, a qualified secondary English teacher with six years of classroom experience and an AQA English Literature examiner.
I’ve spent my teaching career helping young people develop their confidence and ability in English, particularly at GCSE. I love those moments when something that a student has previously found difficult suddenly begins to make sense, and this is at the heart of my approach to tutoring.
I started English, Explained to offer students more individualised support than is always possible in a busy classroom. I wanted to create a calm and encouraging environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes and developing their skills at their own pace.
I’m passionate about making English feel clearer and more manageable, while helping each student recognise what they are capable of achieving.

My lessons are calm, supportive and tailored to the individual student. I take time to identify each student’s strengths and areas for development before creating focused sessions designed around their needs and goals.
I specialise in GCSE English Language and English Literature, helping students develop skills in analysis, essay writing, creative writing and exam technique. I break challenging concepts down into clear, manageable steps and use modelling, guided practice and targeted feedback to help students become more confident and independent.
As an experienced secondary English teacher with six years of classroom experience and an AQA English Literature examiner, I have a strong understanding of GCSE assessment objectives, mark schemes and what examiners are looking for.
Lessons are typically one hour and are available as personalised 1:1 tuition or supportive small-group sessions. I work primarily with secondary and GCSE students, including those who need additional support as well as students aiming to develop and refine their existing skills.
