About Oliver
I am a qualified English and ESOL teacher with several years of experience teaching Functional Skills English (Levels 1 & 2), GCSE English, ESOL (Entry 1 to Level 2), literacy support and adult education. I have worked across FE colleges, community learning, prison education and secondary settings, supporting learners of all ages to build confidence and make rapid progress. My teaching approach is practical, supportive and fully personalised. I break learning down in a clear and structured way, using examples, modelling and targeted practice. Whether you want to improve reading, writing, speaking or exam technique, I create sessions that meet your goals and help you succeed. Many of my learners achieve results quickly, including improved grades, increased confidence and successful progression into work or further study. The first session is an informal assessment and discussion where we identify your goals, your current level, and the best learning plan for you. You will receive personalised feedback and a tailored lesson plan with clear next steps. During this session, I also introduce you to my teaching approach so you know exactly how we will work together. My lessons are structured, friendly, and highly supportive. I break complex skills into simple, manageable steps and use real examples to help you understand quickly. By the end of our first meeting, you will have a clear picture of what you need to improve, how long it may take, and the specific strategies we will use to build your confidence and skills. This first lesson is also your opportunity to ask questions, explain any challenges you have faced previously, and tell me your goals — whether it is passing Functional Skills, achieving a GCSE grade, improving your English for work, or simply feeling more confident in everyday communication. Everything we do afterwards is fully personalised so you progress steadily at your own pace.
