About Emily
Hello! My name is Emily, and I am a certified 7–12 English Language Arts teacher, Graduate Writing Coach at Walsh University, and professional editor with a passion for helping students become confident readers, writers, and critical thinkers.
I hold a Master of Arts in English Literature from John Carroll University and have experience working with students ranging from middle school through graduate school. Throughout my career, I have taught English in the classroom, coached graduate students through complex academic writing projects, and worked professionally as a copyeditor. These experiences have given me a deep understanding of reading, writing, literature, grammar, research, and effective communication.
I believe learning is most successful when students feel supported, challenged, and understood. My goal is not only to help students improve their grades or complete an assignment, but also to build the skills and confidence they need to succeed independently. Whether we're working on essay writing, literary analysis, grammar, test preparation, summer reading, AP English, or college-level writing, I strive to make learning engaging, approachable, and tailored to each student's individual needs.
When I'm not teaching or editing, I am reading, spending time with family and friends (or my cat, Elizabeth Louise), or searching for my next great book recommendation. I look forward to helping you achieve your academic goals

As a certified 7–12 English Language Arts teacher and current Graduate Writing Coach at Walsh University, I believe every student can become a stronger reader, writer, and critical thinker with the right support and encouragement. My approach combines direct instruction, guided practice, constructive feedback, and individualized coaching to help students build both skills and confidence.
A typical lesson begins with identifying the student's goals and areas of need. Depending on the student, we may focus on reading comprehension, literary analysis, essay writing, grammar, vocabulary, research skills, study strategies, or test preparation. I break complex concepts into manageable steps, provide examples and modeling, and then guide students through practice activities tailored to their learning style. Each session ends with clear takeaways and actionable next steps so students can continue building skills between lessons.
What sets me apart is my combination of classroom teaching experience, higher education coaching experience, and professional editing expertise. In addition to teaching English at the secondary level, I have worked as a professional copyeditor and currently support graduate students as they develop theses, dissertations, research papers, and other academic writing projects. This allows me to help students at every stage of their academic journey—from developing foundational literacy skills to refining advanced academic writing.
I work with middle school, high school, honors, AP, dual-enrollment, and college students. I also support adult learners returning to school, graduate students, and anyone looking to strengthen their reading, writing, communication, or critical thinking skills. Whether a student needs help preparing for an exam, improving grades, completing a writing assignment, tackling summer reading, or building long-term confidence in English Language Arts, I strive to create a supportive, engaging learning environment where they can succeed.
