About Linda
I am a passionate and patient educator with over a decade of experience teaching at the post-secondary level. I have also tutored for several years in a variety of contexts. Most recently, I have supported students taking SQA National 5, Higher and Advanced Higher qualifications in both English and French. I have also worked with learners preparing for IELTS and TCF exams, as well as with groups and individuals wishing to improve their French language skills. I have always received excellent evaluations and feedback from both learners and colleagues, along with an exceptional achievement rate among my students. My teaching experience includes: - 10 + years as a Course Instructor at the University of Toronto and the University of Toronto Scarborough. I taught all levels of French, from beginner to advanced. I delivered grammar lessons and developed activities for communication practice. I also taught a range of literature classes, from introductory courses to specialist subjects. - 8 years as a personal tutor. I have taught French and English to individuals and groups in both private and professional settings. - 5 years as a tutor with the Toronto Public Library's Adult Literacy Programme. I provided support to adult learners with reading difficulties and helped them to improve their literacy skills. - Currently working as a tutor of French with the Adult Learning Programmes of both East Lothian and Midlothian Councils. I teach a range of classes to groups of adult learners and I have also delivered family learning sessions for children and their parents/carers.

Learning happens best in a judgement-free environment. I work hard to make sure that all students are at ease and, ultimately, that they enjoy what they are learning. I believe in a learner-centred approach, allowing students to play an active role in the learning process. Everyone learns a little differently, so I try to understand a learner’s particular style in order to tailor lessons and activities to that student's needs. It is important to develop and work towards specific goals, but also to leave room for creativity and imagination. My objective is to give students the tools and strategies they need to be able to learn and study effectively as they continue on in their education.

Linda has been my daughter's English tutor since 2nd year at high school. At that time, my daughter Amber, because of her dyslexia, was really struggling with her school work. With Linda's help, she has transformed from a very reluctant pupil to a student who is excepted to achieve A's in her 5 Highers. Of course, Amber has put in a lot of hard work to achieve this, but Linda has encouraged and worked with her all the way through. Although Linda is her English tutor, she has helped/advised Amber with all her course work (except maths!). I cannot recommend Linda enough.
I have no hesitation in recommending Linda as a tutor. Her encouragement, support and patience have never wavered. She is the ultimate professional and I consider myself very fortunate in having found her.
Linda has been an enormous help for all three of my children.
She has tutored my oldest son through Nat 5 & higher English
my daughter through higher English and higher French, now number three is getting her expert guidance!
She has been so supportive, friendly and has given them so much confidence. My daughter says she feels that Linda is genuinely invested in your progress.View more recommendations
