• Can you tell us about your first experience using a computer?

  Interestingly, my first experience of using a computer was at quite a young age (around 11) when my dad bought me a PC. I cannot forget how excited I was that day and the first thing that I did was create a facebook account! I also realised within a few days of using it that the Power Switch was a solution to every problem 😁.

• What is the technological evolution that has marked you most and what will be, in your eyes, a turning point in this field?

  The evolution of Artificial intelligence in recent years has marked me the most. I am quite fascinated by how quickly AI has permeated all technology. Smart objects, homes and cities, all are connected via AI. However, I also think that policy making will play a big role in shaping the next era of AI and could be the inevitable turning point in this field.

• Explain your expertise, your interest in it and, more broadly, its importance in the computer world.

  Having an academic and professional background in data science and engineering, my expertise lies around solving data based problems using python and R. I believe, in the computer world, the skills of data literacy and programming are very important because as it gets easier for computers to collect large amounts of data, the need to analyse the data also increases. Because of this, I enjoy working with students interested in learning to work with data to solve real-world problems.

• Do so-called 'visionaries', such as Bill Gates, Steve Jobs and Mark Zuckerberg inspire you or do you have other role models?

  Although I respect and admire each of the visionaries for the work they've done, I see my father as my ultimate role model. He worked (and is still working) his best self to help me to pursue my dream of changing the world for good. He also believes that everyone must make mistakes to learn from them, which is something that I follow very religiously while taking lessons as well.

• What would you say to an uncomfortable person in front of a screen who says that "IT is too complicated"?

  I'd say " Even rocket science is made up of small principles that are simple. The same goes for computers and IT in general. The more you know, the more confident you will feel. "

• What are your other passions, related or non-related to computers?

  Apart from technology, I am quite passionate about physical fitness and sports. Having been working in the sports analytics industry for a while now, I believe that playing or even watching sports teaches us values that are essential to daily life. I particularly like playing Badminton and Cricket.
