About Ellie-may

About Me Kia ora! I’m Ellie-May, a passionate and dedicated dance teacher currently studying full-time in Commercial Dance at Te Auaha (Whitireia) in Wellington. I have only been dancing for 7 years but that doesn't make my passion for it any smaller, I LOVE teaching and helping others feel the joy of dance I've worked with children and teens across multiple styles — including commercial, lyrical, jazz, hip hop, and contemporary. My teaching style is energetic, patient, and encouraging. I focus on helping each student feel confident in their body, grow their technique, and express themselves through movement. I believe that dance should be fun, empowering, and adaptable to all levels and personalities — whether you’re a complete beginner finding your rhythm or an experienced dancer wanting to refine your style. I’m committed to creating a supportive space where students can challenge themselves, ask questions, and enjoy the process of learning. I bring not just experience, but genuine care and enthusiasm to every class — because I know how life-changing dance can be when you’re guided with encouragement and passion.

About the lesson

My classes are all about building confidence, creativity, and strong technique in a supportive environment. I teach with a balance of structure and freedom — making sure students learn proper foundations while still enjoying movement and expression.

Each lesson usually runs for 45 minutes to 1 hour, depending on the student’s level and focus. I start with a warm-up and Progressions section, then move into choreography, musicality, and performance quality. For younger students, I like to keep lessons playful and engaging; for older or more experienced dancers, I focus on refining style, control, and storytelling through movement.

I’ve been an assistant dance teacher for two years February 2023 - December 2024 at DAPA, now Sweet Studios, working with kids and teens in a range of styles — commercial, lyrical, contemporary, jazz, and hip hop.

I’m also studying full-time for my Diploma of Commercial Dance at Te Auaha (Whitireia), which allows me to bring current, industry-level knowledge and fresh ideas into my teaching.

My lessons are perfect for anyone who loves to dance — from complete beginners to developing dancers who want to grow in confidence, technique, and creativity. Every class is designed to help students feel proud of their progress, have fun, and connect with their own unique style.
