About Paul
I educate pupils in the local area teaching English maths and science around Plymouth on a daily basis. I also specialise in learning difficulties and disabilities (ASD, ADHD, ADD, etc.). Apart from classroom teaching and tutoring I've also been a curriculum coordinator for people with ASD. The role involved designing a unique syllabus/curriculum and managed a group of educators. I have over 10 years’ mainstream teaching experience in a classroom environment and five years as a tutor/specialist. I’ve taught Music, English, Science, Maths, Art and Primary (KS 1 - 5). I’ve run my own department. As I’m also a musician I’ve taught guitar, cello, violin, keyboards and music theory. I use many different approaches to encourage development. When you see someone understand, learn and expand it is (in my opinion) fantastic. I’m experienced in working with SEN. I’ve achieved excellent results with pupils with specific learning difficulties and behavioural problems. My experiences in this area are in Down syndrome, dyslexia dyspraxia, ADHD, Asperger's, ASD, verbal dyspraxia and sensory processing disorder. I’ve also taught pupils with cerebral palsy deafness and visual acuity problems. I’ve completed a basic sign language course & RPM for ASD. I did this so I could communicate with pupils without relying on a teaching assistant to translate for them/me. Whilst in schools my history of success with Ofsted is good/outstanding. I’m committed to improving pupil/personal development with whatever approach works best for you. I’m available weekdays, weekends and also during the holidays. I believe it’s important to get to know each other first and set out achievable future goals. Thank you very much for reading my profile.

I believe it’s very important to understand how people approach learning. Everyone learns differently. I like to understand a pupil’s strengths through looking at how they learn; I take the information I learn and find the best way to adapt teaching/learning and use a holistic approach.

Perfect! Paul has been teaching my son, who struggles with dyslexia, to do an English Language GCSE retake. He has a very down to earth and engaging method to encourage participation and writing, and also has direct understanding of the techniques people with dyslexia need to develop to compensate. Very happy.

Paul has been helping my son, who is dyslexic, prepare to redo GCSE English retake. He has a very straightforward and engaging way of teaching and has got Max writing. He also has exellect knowledge of dyslexia and techniques for compensating. Very happy.
Paul is a rare type of tutor. He has enormous empathy for students with learning difficulties as he has experienced them himself. He looks at the whole student and works with them to gain their confidence and build strategies and ways of working that help the student understand themselves better and develop an interest in how they can learn. He also looks at the subjects in wide contexts, linking subjects together to help students make more sense of the world.
We have used Paul for approximately 5 years for my son and daughter (daughter since she was in Year 2.
Both my kids enjoy their sessions with him and (almost) never complain.
He always gives feedback on sessions if required and will tailor the session to suit if the kids are tired or not concentrating.
His communication around session times etc is excellent.
Paul tutors both of my children (10yo boy, 7yo girl) in Maths and English. They both think he is great. He is good at keeping their attention and is not worried to tell them to concentrate if required!
He is always punctual and will call if there is a problem.
My son has made significant progress during this year with Paul in his maths and we are awaiting his sats results.
My daughter struggles with maths and Paul is very patient in finding a technique that suits her learning. She has recently started making much better progress.View more recommendations
