About Kellie

I am first and foremost, a mother. My two kids are now ages 20 and 21. My son is going to college to be a doctor! I pride myself in instilling in them a love of reading (and learning overall), when they were young. I also have 15 "kids"- AKA students in my First-Grade classroom, whom I love. However, I also really enjoy having more opportunities to tutor children 1:1 or at least in smaller groups, as that is where the most growth happens and it is very rewarding! I currently live in Phoenix, AZ but am open to virtual tutoring all over the globe (according to my availability).

About the lesson

I am a certified elementary school teacher, currently in a first-grade classroom, looking to add tutoring after- school hours and some weekend hours (limited hours) to my schedule.

I also have experience working as a Special Education teacher, so what sets me apart is knowing how to work with varying skill levels and adapting my instruction to fit the needs of the student. I have worked with children who have autism, mild/moderate learning disabilities, intellectual disabilities, and ADHD. I, myself, have late-diagnosed ADHD and know how to support your student with their executive functioning needs.

I like to add creativity to my lessons, depending on the age-level and interests. I enjoy using methods such as music and art, and I understand the importance of multi-sensory learning. With virtual tutoring, of course, I cannot hand your student objects, but I can use my own props, as well as the tools online to the best of my ability.

I specialize in teaching basic phonemic awareness ( reading skills such as letter sounds) to struggling readers, ages 5 to 10.
