Techniques and teaching methodology: I focus on breaking complex Computer Science concepts into simple, manageable steps. Lessons include guided explanations, live modelling, exam-style practice, and lots of opportunities for students to apply what they’ve learnt independently. I tailor every session to the learner’s ability, learning style and confidence level. I also use spaced retrieval, structured revision plans and regular low-stakes quizzes to help students retain knowledge over time. Typical length of a lesson: A standard session is a minimum of one hour, with the option to extend to 90 minutes for deeper topics like algorithms, programming, data representation or exam technique. For GCSE and A Level students, one hour weekly tends to provide the best balance of progress and retention. Qualifications and experience: I am an experienced Computer Science teacher and former Head of Department with over seven years of teaching OCR GCSE and A Level Computer Science. I hold a First Class degree in Computer Software Engineering from the University of Greenwich and have industry experience as a software developer. I currently teach and train staff, develop curricula, and I am completing the NPQTLD to further strengthen my practice.
