About Marilee
My name is Marilee, and I am an experienced educator with more than 16 years in education. I hold a bachelor’s degree in English and Communications, a master’s degree in English Literature, and a master’s degree in Communication and Organizational Leadership. My professional background includes teaching college English, serving as an Early College High School English teacher, and supporting students through higher-education programs and partnerships.
I understand that writing can feel intimidating, especially when expectations are unclear. My goal is to make the process manageable and help every student become a more confident, capable writer. I bring patience, professionalism, and genuine care to each session, creating a supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, taking risks, and improving their skills.

My tutoring approach is personalized, encouraging, and practical. I begin by identifying each student’s goals, strengths, and challenges, then adapt my teaching methods to how they learn best. Rather than simply correcting mistakes, I explain the reasoning behind each revision so students develop skills they can use independently.
A typical lesson begins with a review of the student’s assignment and goals, followed by focused instruction, guided practice, and collaborative revision. We may work on brainstorming, thesis development, organization, grammar, research, citations, or strengthening the clarity and style of a draft. Each session ends with clear next steps and strategies the student can apply to future assignments.
What sets me apart is my extensive experience as a college English professor, Early College High School teacher, and higher-education student-support professional. I understand both what instructors expect and why students often feel overwhelmed by writing. I create a patient, judgment-free environment while providing honest, constructive feedback.
My lessons are ideal for high school, undergraduate, and adult learners seeking support with academic essays, research papers, college applications, professional writing, grammar, or general writing confidence.
