About Iona

Hello! I'm a classically trained alto with more than 10 years of experience in choral singing and musical theater. I also have a lot of experience with young children, medium children, and old children. I truly love mentoring them. I'm young myself and therefore relatable, which makes our lessons like a game instead of like school. And since I've been singing for so long, I know exactly what it takes to sing confidently under pressure!

About the lesson

My lessons are specially designed for beginners and young singers (ages 4 to 17) who are looking to discover their voice, build foundational music skills, or prepare for specific events like auditions or school plays. I will always modify my lessons to match your child's level and goals.

My Teaching Methodology and Techniques
I focus on beautiful tone, pitch & rhythm, and ear training to give students a strong foundation in singing! Over time, your child will learn how to read and understand music on their own.

Standard Weekly Lesson Plan (30-60 minutes, depending on student's age):

1. Warmup - everyone's favorite part! We'll start out by getting the breath flowing and gradually move into more technical exercises. These will help develop agility, good tone, and smooth out breaks.

2. Targeted Practice. If the student or I notice a recurring mistake, either at home or in lessons, we'll take a few minutes to work on that specifically. For example, if a student complains that her lower break always sounds awkward, we'll do some exercises to help the problem and get her feeling confident.

3. Sight-Singing - the fun stuff! In this section, we'll practice sight-reading, intervals, and other challenges to build first-class musicians.

4. Repertoire & Performance Coaching! We'll apply our technical focus to a song the student loves, usually one he/she was supposed to practice for homework. The student will sing as much as he/she feels comfortable doing, and then we'll work on phrasing, diction, and acting through song.

5. "Homework." We'll do a super quick review of the lesson and make a game plan for next time. Usually, that involves picking a piece to practice at home.

Free 30 minute trial lesson! Feel free to sit in and help your child get comfortable.
After the trial, a 30 minute lesson costs $23; a 45 minute lesson costs $38; and a 60 minute lesson costs $45.
